Animation Certificate
In the Department of Visual Arts, students may earn a Certificate Degree in Animation. This focused path allows students to explore the fundamentals of classical animation and time-based studies. Course content includes material that can be extended to motion graphics, film and video, and history and theory of animation. This may dovetail with course requirements for an art or graphic design major or be taken outside the department majors. Some courses may require prerequisite classes. Certificate completion includes the creation of a professional demo reel and/or a completed stand-alone animated work. This certificate program does not require declaration before coursework begins and may be declared at time of graduation application.
Required Animation Courses, 12 hours:
- ARTD 203, Introduction to Classical Animation I
- ARTD 303, Introduction to Classical Animation II
- ARTD 403, Intermediate Animation
- ART492, Special Topics in Animation (Topic may vary each semester)
The Department of Visual Arts has a strong partnership with Daktronics, Inc. Students also have the opportunity to experience life as professional animators and motion graphics artists through internships and student positions available at the Brookings, South Dakota-based company. Animation students and GRADUATES from SDSU have garnered awards for their work both near and far and have found successful careers as freelance artists, animators and animation and art directors locally and nationwide.
